Contemporary Music Touring Program (CMTP)
Music Australia has provided funding to ensure the continuation of the Contemporary Music Touring Program.
The program supports national touring activity undertaken by Australian musicians performing original Australian contemporary music.
Eligible tours must include performances in at least three venues outside of the performer’s hometown.
Eligibility Overview
- Individuals or organisations may apply to tour live music performances within Australia.
- Touring musicians must be performing original Australian contemporary music.
- Funding can be provided to performers, managers, agents, and music networks on behalf of professionals working in the Australian music industry.
- Applications must contain one tour only.
- Applicants must comply with Protocols for using First Nations Cultural and Intellectual Property in the Arts, and the Commonwealth Child Safe Framework.
Key Dates
The next round closing dates are: Tuesday 5 March 2024 at 3pm AEDT, for projects beginning after 1 June 2024.
Funding Overview
Funding thresholds for tours ($5,000 minimum applies for all applications):
- If your itinerary contains only metropolitan performances, you may request up to $15,000.
- If your itinerary contains at least one regional or remote performance, you may request up to $25,000.
- If 75% of your itinerary is to remote and/or very remote locations, you may request up to $50,000.
Assessment Criteria
Applications will be peer assessed against the following criteria:
- The calibre of the artists and arts workers involved and the quality of the music
- Contributions to development of Australian culture
- Realistic budgeting and touring logistics
- Applications can be supported by example material including written material, images and audio recording, as well as additional artist information, letters of support etc.
Application Process
To apply for the grant, applicants must be registered in the Creative Australia application management system a minimum of two business days prior to the closing date.
Registrations take up to two business days to process. You will be notified of the outcome of your application approximately 12 weeks after the closing date.
